Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow: It’s… Okay

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. You don’t want to know if the movie is “okay.” You can get that much from your mush-mouthed co-worker at the water cooler. If I could think of another word I would certainly use it. I’ve been thinking about it a great deal, and I can only think of… okay.

The visuals are stunning, obviously. Everything has a retro-cool feel that’s terribly spiffy, but… there are problems with the story, of course. It seems we can’t have films that are visually fantastic that also happen to have a good script, too. Of course Jude Law was appropriately appealing, and Gwyneth Paltrow looked very nice, and Angelina Jolie had an interesting role that she obviously had fun with. The robot thingies were fun to look at.

I don’t know what it is about the story that doesn’t quite add up. See it yourself and clue me in, because I can’t for the life of me detail just what it was that was out of whack. Maybe it’s just the whole idea that was dopey, but I usually like silly comic-book ideas.

I will have to think on this one a bit more. There are little details that bugged me that I don’t want to divulge, in case someone out there who comes across this (hello random being) will want to see the movie and not have it spoiled.

So. It looked pretty. Yeah.
