Ugh

I didn’t get the job. The HR lady at our station came and told me on Friday, and was very nice about the whole thing, but I am still stunned. She explained that the person they picked was from a call center and had experience with multi-line phones and supervisory experience.

I have that experience. So what the fuck happened?

So stunned. And hurt. And wondering what I did wrong. I have lots of good experience on the phones and with PBS stations, so why didn’t that trump someone from a goddamned call center? It should have.

I’m wondering if something else was the problem, like… that I’m overweight, or too young, or didn’t dress the right way. It makes more sense to me than someone from outside the station being a better fit for the job. Some strange intangible that I couldn’t control might have sunk the whole thing from the start.

Or maybe something happened while the news of my application was blabbed all over the station. I am seriously pondering an inquiry into that, because it should never have been leaked to anyone in the first place.

I just don’t get it. What did I do wrong?
