“Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn.”

Saturday, August 21st, 2004

No, the cat didn’t walk across my keyboard. (I can’t pronounce any of that, so don’t ask.) The title means, per H.P. Lovecraft, “In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.” Haven’t met Cthulhu yet? Run– don’t walk! — to your local library and check out Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos, Volume 1. It’s […]

Insert Pointless Vampire Pun Here

Friday, August 20th, 2004

So, the New York Times didn’t care for “Dracula, the Musical” either. Ben Brantley writes: “And here it is, looming like a giant stuffed bat on a stick, the easiest target on Broadway. “Dracula, the Musical,” which sets the familiar tale of old snaggletooth to the familiar music of Frank Wildhorn, creaked open last night […]

It’s Opening Night…

Thursday, August 19th, 2004

“Dracula” opened today and the first review’s in. It’s… not pretty. The reviewer called it a “dopey potboiler with a ridiculous ending and an ill-suited leading lady.” I have never seen or heard anyone use “dopey” and “potboiler” in the same sentence before. Wow. The reviewer liked “Young Zombies in Love” much better.

Ooh, That’ll Be A Deduction…

Monday, August 16th, 2004

Okay, it’s about 3 AM and I’m not asleep as I should be. I blame the various Cthulhu stories I read before bed. Eeeep. Actually it wasn’t Cthulhu but Nyarlethotep, but I digress. So, the Olympics are on, and it’s one of the early gymnastic events. It is quite possibly the cruelest of the Olympic […]

Olympic Fame, Glory, and… Centaurs

Sunday, August 15th, 2004

Opening ceremonies were way cool. At least the part of it I saw. I got to see the red centaur and the parade of Greek history and the floaty cube head. Sweeeeeet. Let’s please hire these guys to do the Super Bowl halftime program. Bjork’s dress will probably have to be dry-cleaned before then. I’ve […]

Random… Things… For Consideration

Thursday, August 12th, 2004

I feel like an old Soviet tractor’s run me over and dragged me through a cooperative farm or two. Pledge has that effect on people. If it’s not the extra snotty people on the phone, it’s the extra data entry and the extra-extra-extra grumpy boss. Tonight’s the last night, though, so no more begathon until […]

How to Get the Worst Customer Service Possible

Tuesday, August 10th, 2004

I think I’m going to start a national campaign right here on this blog. It’s going to be called: “Be Nice, Dammit.” It’s going to address the complete and total lack of consideration for customer service workers. (Although I am primarily speaking of those who answer the phone when you want to gripe about something, […]

Bite This

Thursday, August 5th, 2004

Yes, I was a little mean to “Dracula” in a previous post. (See July 22nd’s comments. Or don’t.) To make up for it I’ll make a nice pitch: Join The Order of Dracula (No, I’m not making that up) at the “Dracula” official website. There are pictures and mp3 files to enjoy. There are even […]

Thoughts on a Final Exam

Thursday, August 5th, 2004

Hmm. It appears I’ve been MIA on the blog this week. So, I uh… I procrastinated. Just like I said I wouldn’t. Just can’t help myself I guess. Again I almost didn’t finish what I needed to, and I subjected myself to two sleepless nights to get it all accomplished. Sigh. Must do better this […]
